Europa League: De Rossi’s Roma thrash Brighton 4-0
Roma thrashed Brighton and Hove Albion 4-0 in the Europa League, courtesy of Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Gianluca Mancini, and Bryan Cristante.
The Giallorossi started strongly, with Lukaku forcing Brighton’s goalkeeper Jason Steele into a fine save early on.
Brighton also nearly took the lead when Simon Adingra’s cross deflected off Evan Ndicka and hit the upright.
Roma then broke the deadlock when Dybala latched onto a long ball from Leandro Paredes, and calmly slotted it past the onrushing goalkeeper.
Despite initially being flagged offside, VAR confirmed Dybala’s timed run to give Roma the lead.
Brighton continued to threaten, with Steele denying Danny Welbeck’s header.
However, Roma extended their lead when Lewis Dunk’s mistake allowed Lukaku to steal the ball, sprint clear, and beat Steele at the near post.
The hosts added a third just after the break, as Mancini volleyed in Stephan El Shaarawy’s cross.
Roma’s fourth came soon after, with El Shaarawy providing a cross for Cristante to head home.
