Euro 2024: Spain captain Morata to undergo AC Milan medical, despite “vacation” claims
Alvaro Morata, who captained Spain to a 2-1 win over England in the Euro 2024 final, is set to undergo a medical for a transfer to AC Milan.
Despite his claim of going on vacation, reports suggest the move is imminent.
The 31-year-old striker, who will turn 32 in October, played a crucial role in Spain’s victory at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Following the match, he addressed news men thus, after asked if he would be moving to Italy next season; “Let me enjoy this trophy first, then I’ll go on vacation with my family. We’ll see.”
However, multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, La Gazzetta dello Sport and Football Espana, report that Morata’s medical is scheduled in Madrid on Tuesday.
The timing could be adjusted depending on Spain’s celebrations for their Euro 2024 victory.
Morata is expected to sign a four-year contract with AC Milan, earning €5.5 million per season.
The transfer was reportedly influenced by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who, along with Milan director Geoffrey Moncada, watched Morata lift the trophy in Berlin on Sunday.
The striker’s move from Atletico Madrid seems likely, especially given his €13 million release clause for clubs outside Spain.
Although Juventus and Al-Qadsiah FC showed interest, insiders are confident that Morata has committed to joining Milan.
