EURO 2024: France eliminate Ronaldo’s Portugal in dramatic penalty shoot-out

France defeated Portugal 5-4 in a tense penalty shoot-out to advance to the Euro 2024 semi-finals, after a goalless draw in extra time.

Milan left-back Theo Hernandez converted the last penalty, sending France to the semi-finals, where they will face Spain.

Theo Hernandez’s powerful shot early on was saved by Diogo Costa, the hero of Portugal’s previous shoot-out win over Slovenia.

After halftime, Kylian Mbappé’s long-range effort was comfortably saved by Costa, while Nuno Mendes’ dive missed a clear scoring chance.

As the game progressed, Randal Kolo Muani’s attempt was blocked by Ruben Dias, and Camavinga narrowly missed from six yards.

Ousmane Dembele’s curler also went off target.

In extra time, Cristiano Ronaldo’s shot went over the bar, while Pepe blocked Mbappé’s effort,.

In the penalty shoot-out, Joao Felix hit the post, while Theo Hernandez kept his composure to score the winning penalty for France.
