Euro 2024: England through to semis courtesy of Alexander-Arnold’s winning spot-kick against Switzerland
England have booked a place in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 after a penalty shoot-out victory over Switzerland on Saturday.
Breel Embolo gave the in-form Swiss side an early lead, putting England in danger of an early exit.
However, Bukayo Saka equalized minutes later to send the game into extra time.
Despite a tense 30 minutes of extra time football, neither team could find a winner, despite some late chances created by Swiss side.
This opened the way for an intense penalty shoot-out where England were flawless from the spot.
Meanwhile, Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer was unable to save any of England’s penalties.
Trent Alexander-Arnold netted the decisive penalty to end the clash 5-3 in favour of the three Lions.
England will now face either the Netherlands or Turkey in the semi-finals, with a spot in the final on the line.
