Erling Haaland in contention for Manchester City Champions League clash
Manchester City forward Erling Haaland is in contention for the upcoming Champions League match against Young Boys.
Haaland was withdrawn from Saturday’s league victory over Bournemouth at half-time due to an ankle injury.
City manager Pep Guardiola stated at a press conference that Haaland’s condition would be assessed after a training session on Monday afternoon.
When asked if Haaland would be available for the game, Guardiola said, “We train this afternoon. We will speak with the doctor. I don’t know.
“Yesterday he told me he felt much better than the day of the game but I don’t know,” he added.
While Manchester City are already making progress toward securing a spot in the round of 16 of the Champions League, the question of resting Haaland for the upcoming match against Chelsea on Sunday is being considered.
Meanwhile, Guardiola noted that he would rely on medical advice and give Haaland the chance to show his fitness.
“I will listen to the doctors. If he says he is ready and does not have pain, I will consider him to play because from Tuesday to Sunday there’s a lot (of time), it is not Wednesday.”
