EPL: Welbeck suffers scary injury after netting Brighton’s winner against Newcastle

Danny Welbeck’s match-winning performance for Brighton against Newcastle ended in concern as the forward was stretchered off with a back injury.

The 33-year-old opened the scoring at St James’ Park, leading the Seagulls toward back-to-back Premier League victories.

However, his day took a turn in the 77th minute after an innocuous clash with Newcastle defender Fabian Schar.

Welbeck appeared to tweak his back and called for medical assistance, receiving oxygen before being stretchered off.

He was replaced by Jan Paul van Hecke.

Welbeck has had an impressive start to the season, scoring five goals so far—matching his total tally from the entire 2023/24 campaign.
