EPL: Manchester United reach agreement to sign Rasmus Hojlund
Premier league club, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Serie A heavyweights, Atalanta to sign Denmark international, Rasmus Hojlund.
The 20-year-old striker who was left out of Atalanta’s squad that featured in a friendly against Bournemouth on Saturday, July 29, will cost an initial £64m plus up to £8m in add-ons.
Rasmus Hojlund has already reached personal terms with Manchester United over his move to Old Trafford and will sign a five-year contract with the option of an extra year.
The Italian club were originally demanding £86m, but United were reluctant to go over £60m for a player who only cost Atalanta £15m from Sturm Graz 11 months ago.
Paris Saint Germain had also made a €50 million (£43 million) offer for Hojlund in recent days and felt that was an accurate reflection of the 20-year-old’s value.
The Dane began his senior career at Copenhagen, making his Danish Superliga debut aged 17 in 2020, before switching to Austrian side Sturm Graz two years later.
Hojlund spent only six months in the Austrian Bundesliga after joining Sturm in January 2022, and scored a goal every other game, finding the net nine times in 17 starts.
That impressive form led to his move to Atalanta for a reported £15m, 10 times what Sturm Graz had paid for him six months earlier.
He made his international debut in 2022 and has scored six goals in six games, all in qualifying for Euro 2024.
If the transfer is completed on time time, Hojlund could come into contention for United’s final pre-season friendlies against Ligue 1 side Lens next Saturday at Old Trafford and Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday.
United have been busy in the transfer market so far having already signed Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan. They will be facing Wolverhampton Wanderers at home in their opening 2023-24 Premier League fixture on Monday, 14 August.
