EPL: Liverpool stages 3-1 comeback against Wolves at Molineux
Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 16 games with a 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux.
The Reds overcame a horrible first half to go top of the Premier League table. Andy Robertson, making his 200th Premier League appearance for the club, played a vital role with his late winner.
The Scotland left-back, serving as captain in the absence of the suspended Virgil van Dijk, capitalized on a well-executed lay-off from Mohamed Salah to score his eighth goal at Anfield and the first for his side in the game.
Liverpool initially fell behind to an early opener from Wolves’ Hee Chan-Hwang. Recall that Jurgen Klopp suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wolves in February.
The German had previously expressed his frustration, stating he had “no words” for that performance, and was uncertain going into today’s game.
Liverpool’s defending and midfield cover left much to be desired in the first half, proof of their struggles from seven months ago.
Klopp’s side appeared overwhelmed and lacked the desire to contend with Wolves’ attacking power. However, they mounted a comeback in the second half, with Cody Gakpo equalizing in the 55th minute after a pass from Salah.
The momentum had shifted, and just 60 seconds into stoppage time, Harvey Elliott’s shot deflected off Hugo Bueno and into the net, credited as an own goal.
Elliott’s goal triggered much jubilation among Liverpool fans, as the young substitute sprinted towards the stands.
While Klopp was undoubtedly pleased with the comeback, he may remain concerned about the defensive vulnerabilities displayed by his team, in the first half of the game
