EPL: Gary Neville criticizes Liverpool’s statement on PGMOL, calls it a Mistake
Gary Neville has criticized Liverpool for their “aggressive” statement directed at the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
The former Manchester United and England defender’s reaction comes after the club’s controversial 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The match was also marred with contentious decisions, including a red card for Curtis Jones and the disallowed goal of Luis Diaz.
Neville took to the social media to express his opinion on the now viral Liverpool’s statement, saying, “Liverpool’s statement tonight is a mistake! Talk of exploring all options and sporting integrity are dangerous phrases along with being vague and aggressive. Sorry should be respected and not undervalued.”
He however, commended Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for his handling of the situation immediately after the game, revealing that most football fans understood the team’s grievances.
Liverpool’s statement had criticized the PGMOL for undermining sporting integrity and threatened to explore various options to get their due justice.
Recall that PGMOL had earlier admitted the error in not awarding Diaz’s goal and removed their VAR officials Darren England and assistant Dan Cook from their upcoming Premier League assignments.
Meanwhile, despite Liverpool’s frustrations, the match ended with a 2-1 loss after a stoppage-time own goal by Joel Matip. The result marked Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.
