EPL: Erik ten Hag confirms Rasmus Hojlund will miss start of season
Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has disclosed that their new signing Rasmus Hojlund will miss the start of season following an injury he sustained.
The English club was in the current transfer market for a new striker and the 20-year-old Danish forward emerged as the top target after United moved on from Harry Kane.
Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford last week in a £72 million move from Serie A side Atalanta, but he has now been sidelined by an injury.
Giving an update on Hojlund during an interview with Sky Sports, Erik ten Hag said;
“It’s difficult to say how that process will go, but I think he’s making good progress at this moment. We have to see day by day how the progress will go, then we have to follow up.
“Of course when he’s available and he’s here so you have the option to play, but we don’t expect him in that short notice to be 100 per cent fit. So we have to wait some time more. We need all positions doubled because of the number of games.
“We need the competition, you always have to deal with suspensions and injuries, with the form of players. Also from a technical perspective, we need double positioning and yes you need good players, but also every player needs perspective to play.
“I’m happy with the squad and I want a strong squad and competition in the squad so I’m happy with the current players who are in, so if we go with the squad into the season, that’s fine.”
The Red Devils will be hosting Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night, hoping to kick off their season with three points.
While Hojlund has been ruled out, United still have enough available options in attack to field a strong side in their league opener.
