EPL: Chelsea negotiating cash-plus-player deal to sign Mbappe
Chelsea has reportedly initiated a move to bring French football star, Kylian Mbappe to Stamford Bridge this season.
PSG are looking to offload the forward this summer after he refused to extend his stay at the Parc des Princes. It is believed that Real Madrid are seemingly banking on Mbappe joining the club for nothing next year, and PSG fear that the France international has already given Los Blancos his word.
Nevertheless, Saudi Arabian giants Al-Hilal apparently had a world-record €300m (£257.7m) bid accepted by PSG, but Mbappe refused to enter talks over a move to the Middle East.
With the Real Madrid and Al-Hilal avenues closed off for now, PSG’s hopes of offloading Mbappe this summer are dwindling, but Liverpool are purported to be considering a shock loan swoop for the France international.
Amid a report of Paris Saint-Germain holding talks with Liverpool over a loan transfer for Kylian Mbappe, Chelsea have now entered the race with a player-plus-cash proposal.
According to the Daily Record, Todd Boehly has held direct talks with PSG counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaifi over a player-plus-cash deal for Mbappe.
It is unclear which members of Chelsea’s squad could be used in negotiations, but Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Malang Sarr, and Hakim Ziyech, the latter of whom was on the brink of joining PSG in January before a deal collapsed, are all on the chopping block.
Mbappe’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would reinforce an attack already strengthened by the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, as well as two youthful additions in Angelo Gabriel and Diego Moreira.
Mbappe had a trial at Chelsea when he was 10-years-old, but the Blues passed up the option to sign him after he failed to score in an 8-0 thumping of Charlton.
The Frech man had previously spoken about his admiration for Liverpool, revealing he even held talks over a move from Monaco before sealing a switch to PSG.
