EPL: Chelsea fails to find victory again as clash with Bournemouth ends 0-0
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have once again, struggled to break through a strong Bournemouth defense in Sunday’s Premier League match.
Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling came close to scoring but were denied by the woodwork and some excellent goalkeeping by Neto.
Chelsea have now won just one of their last five matches and sits in 14th place in the Premier League.
The expensive signings made during the summer by Chelsea owner Todd Boehly have not brought much improvement to the club, given their form last season.
Despite his price tag, Jackson lacked physical presence up front, and Enzo Fernandez, a £106 million midfielder, had an anonymous display and was substituted.
Meanwhile Bournemouth, under new boss Andoni Iraola, showed a strong presence but also lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Former Chelsea player Dominic Solanke had a chance to score, but Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez denied him.
Despite their high spending, Chelsea named six players on the bench who had never played for the club.
Mykhailo Mudryk who signed in January, had a decent game on the left but couldn’t find the back of the net. Raheem Sterling also saw his free-kick hit the crossbar.
However, Levi Colwill slotted in the rebound, but it was disallowed for offside by the referee.
Bournemouth had their moments as well, with a Lewis Cook free-kick releasing Ryan Christie, whose low cross found Dango Ouattara, but Sanchez was quick to restrict the shot.
As the game progressed, Chelsea’s frustration grew, and Bournemouth gained confidence, especially after the introduction of substitute Justin Kluivert.
