England boss Tuchel strikes agreement with FA to work from Germany

New England boss Thomas Tuchel has reached an agreement with the country’s FA to work from Germany.

This means he will miss significant domestic fixtures while preparing for his first games in charge.

The 51-year-old German, who replaced Gareth Southgate last October on an 18-month contract worth £5 million per year, officially started his role on January 1.

However, The Times reports that Tuchel has already missed three rounds of Premier League and FA Cup matches as part of a deal permitting him to travel back to Germany regularly to visit his family.

Despite being spotted at numerous Premier League and European fixtures, the former Chelsea manager was absent for the entire FA Cup third-round weekend and three full Premier League gameweeks.

Tuchel’s first match in charge of the Three Lions is set for March 21, when England hosts Albania in a World Cup 2026 qualifier at Wembley.

Three days later, they will face Latvia at the same venue.

As England’s third-ever foreign manager—following Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello—Tuchel expressed pride in leading the national team, calling it a “huge privilege” and emphasizing his deep connection to English football.
