EFCC warns against illegal oil bunkering, assures IPMAN of supply integrity

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal oil bunkering and ensuring petroleum product integrity in Nigeria.
The commission clarified its role in testing petroleum products to detect and prevent illegal activities in the sector.
During a courtesy visit by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Akwa Ibom chapter, EFCC’s Uyo Zonal Director, Assistant Commander Oshodi Johnson, emphasized the commission’s legal mandate in checking oil-related crimes.
IPMAN Chairman, Comrade Francis Udeyen, sought clarification on EFCC’s role in testing fuel samples.
“We need to be informed about how the EFCC is involved in our line of business,” the IPMAN Chairman asked.
In response, Oshodi assured stakeholders that the EFCC’s newly launched forensic laboratory in Port Harcourt meets international standards.
Oshodi explained the rationale behind testing petroleum products by EFCC officers, pointing out that it is meant to check illegal oil bunkering and safeguard the integrity of petroleum product supplies.”
“Regarding our testing processes, I can assure you that the EFCC has the best laboratory, which we just launched in Port Harcourt. It is a complete forensic laboratory of international standard,”
“If you’re not aiding, abetting, or conspiring with illegal bunkerers, you don’t have a problem with us. We just want to discourage and end the activities of illegal bunkerers because they sell to you, bringing their illegal products to you. But it’s high time we put an end to these activities,” he added.
He warned petroleum marketers against involvement in illegal oil dealings, stating that the EFCC would take necessary actions against offenders.
