Deal agreed: Conor Gallagher set to seal Atletico Madrid move from Chelsea

Conor Gallagher is set to complete his transfer from Chelsea to Atletico Madrid on Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the La Liga club, which has negotiated a £33 million deal with Chelsea.

Recall Gallagher turned down a new two-year contract offer from Chelsea, feeling it did not reflect his importance to the team.

Chelsea made it clear that he was not expected to be a regular first-team starter under new manager Enzo Maresca, leading to Gallagher’s exclusion from the first-team squad for pre-season.

Despite a previous record bid from Aston Villa, which Gallagher rejected, he has decided to move to Spain.

Gallagher has been with Chelsea since the age of eight, having had loan spells at Charlton, Swansea, West Brom, and Swansea again before breaking into the first team in 2022.

In the past two seasons, Gallagher has made significant contributions with ten goals and ten assists in 95 appearances across all competitions for the Blues.

He missed only four top-flight matches in the 2023/24 season, playing more matches than any other Chelsea player with 50 appearances.
