De Bruyne returns, inspires Manchester City’s dramatic 3-2 win against Newcastle
Kevin De Bruyne marked his return to the Premier League, inspiring Manchester City to a 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle.
The Belgian midfielder who recently recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out for four months, made a significant impact on his long-awaited league comeback.
De Bruyne’s last Premier League appearance was on the opening day of the season against Burnley at Turf Moor.
After featuring in the FA Cup against Huddersfield last week, he returned to top-flight action at St James’ Park on Saturday.
His impact was immediate, as moments after coming on, the 32-year-old dribbled through the Newcastle defense and calmly slotted a low shot past Martin Dubravka to equalize for City, who were 2-1 down.
De Bruyne wasn’t finished yet. In the dying moments of the game, he provided an assist for Oscar Bobb, who sealed the dramatic late winner for City.
The result sees Newcastle remain in tenth place in the Premier League table, while City move into second place, trailing league leaders Liverpool by two points.
