Corps members to receive backlog of unpaid ₦77,000 allowance – FG

The Federal Government (FG) has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that the backlog of their newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance will be paid.

The assurance came on Monday, March 24, 2025, from the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande,  during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

In September 2024, the Federal Government announced an increment in corps members’allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000.

However, several months after the announcement, the new payment structure has not been implemented, despite repeated assurances from authorities.

The delay has led to concerns and backlash from corps members, especially those who have completed or are about to complete their service year.

According to Minister Olawande, all serving corps members, as well as those who were in the scheme at the time of the announcement, will receive their payments retrospectively.

“You saw the new DG saying that you will get it, and they’re asking him a question: ‘What about those that are going out now? Are they going to receive it [backlog]?’ He said, ‘We have your details,’” Olawande stated.

He further assured that while the payment might not be immediate, the government is committed to ensuring that all affected corps members receive their entitled backlog.

Despite the assurance, no specific timeline was given for the payment.
