Conte heaps praise on McTominay’s impact at Napoli as United regret sale
Antonio Conte has praised Scott McTominay’s versatility and tactical importance at Napoli, while Manchester United fans question club’s decision to sell the midfielder.
McTominay, who joined Napoli this summer for €30.5m, has already contributed a goal and an assist in four games, helping his new team top the Serie A table.
Conte reportedly adjusted Napoli’s formation to a 4-3-3 to maximize McTominay’s skills, deploying him in more attacking roles.
“Scott is a complete player, versatile, who can be a trequartista behind the striker or play in a range of midfield roles,” Conte said after Napoli’s 2-0 win over Monza.
Meanwhile, some at Manchester United are beginning to regret the sale, with pundits, including BBC’s Robbie Savage calling it “a big mistake.”
United, who signed Manuel Ugarte from PSG for €50m, have struggled in both the Premier League and Europa League.
The English giants lost 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur at home on Sunday, compounding the pressure on manager Erik Ten Hag.
