Confirmed: Chelsea’s Axel Disasi joins Aston Villa on loan after snubbing Tottenham

Axel Disasi has joined Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea for the remainder of the season, turning down an initial move to Tottenham.

Spurs had been pushing for a temporary deal for the French defender, but he opted to join Unai Emery’s Champions League-chasing side instead.

Villa secured the move after submitting a deal sheet before the transfer deadline, reportedly paying Chelsea a £5 million loan fee.

Disasi becomes Villa’s fifth signing of the window, following Marcus Rashford, Marco Asensio, Donyell Malen, and Andres Garcia.

His arrival comes as a blow to Tottenham, who are facing a defensive crisis.

Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin has been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL tear, adding to their growing injury list.

Cristian Romero remains sidelined for at least three weeks, while Micky van de Ven is only just returning to fitness.

Meanwhile, Spurs made late moves in the transfer window but had mixed success.

They signed Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel on loan but failed in a £70 million bid for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.

They also brought in Kevin Danso on loan from Lens after hijacking Wolves’ move, while young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky arrived earlier in the window.
