Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell set for Crystal Palace medicals
Ben Chilwell is set to join Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of the season after Chelsea agreed to a deal with the Eagles.
The 28-year-old left-back will undergo a medical on Monday before finalizing the move to Selhurst Park.
Palace turned to Chilwell after Chadi Riad suffered a season-ending injury and Trevoh Chalobah returned to Chelsea from his own loan spell.
Everton also showed interest, but they are ineligible to sign another Chelsea player after securing Armando Broja on loan for the 2024/25 campaign.
Chilwell has been on the fringes at Chelsea since head coach Enzo Maresca stated in August that he did not fit into his plans and would be better off getting regular minutes elsewhere.
Despite expectations of a summer exit, a transfer failed to materialize, and he has made just one appearance this season, coming off the bench in a 5-0 Carabao Cup win over Barrow in September.
The England international joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 for £50 million and played a key role in their 2021 Champions League triumph.
However, his progress has been hindered by injuries, including an ACL tear in 2021 and recurring hamstring issues that affected his form over the past two seasons.
Chilwell, capped 21 times for England, will now look to revive his career at Palace, providing much-needed defensive cover as they aim to secure a strong finish in the Premier League.
