Chelsea loanee Ugochukwu stays loyal to France amid report of Super Eagles call-up
Chelsea midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu remains committed to representing France despite reports linking him with a potential Super Eagles switch.
Recent reports suggest that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was working to convince both Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka to switch their international allegiance from France and England, respectively, to Nigeria.
However, All Nigeria Soccer reports that the 20-year-old remains focused on his career with France.
He has represented the country at various youth levels, from U18 to U23.
Ugochukwu, who is on loan at Southampton, became provisionally cap-tied to France after playing in a European U19 Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan in November 2022.
Ugochukwu, the nephew of former Super Eagles defender Onyekachi Apam, remains hopeful of earning a place in France’s senior squad, making a potential nationality switch unlikely for now.
