Chelsea are on the brink of signing Barcelona academy forward Marc Guiu, with the Premier League club set to trigger his €6 million release clause.
The 17-year-old is close to agreeing personal terms, according to reports from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Guiu, whose contract with Barcelona runs until 2025, was offered a new improved contract by his current club, but his agents have yet to respond.
Despite Barcelona’s efforts, the young striker appears set to move to Chelsea, bypassing a potential stint at sister club RC Strasbourg, where the Blues several young prospects have been sent.
Chelsea plan to evaluate Guiu before deciding whether he will join their first team or be loaned out.
The club are reportedly confident in his potential to develop into a top striker.
Guiu already made an impression at Barcelona, scoring a decisive goal against Athletic Club on his debut.
In his appearances for Barca Atletic this season, Guiu has tallied six goals and four assists in 16 games, often coming off the bench.
