Chelsea agree deal to sign Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United, per David Ornstein
Chelsea have reached an agreement with Atlanta United to sign 19-year-old left-back Caleb Wiley, according to David Ornstein.
The football insider reveals that the deal, valued at around £8.5 million, includes a contract that runs until June 2031.
Wiley, a United States international, will join Chelsea but is expected to be loaned to Strasbourg for the next season to gain regular first-team experience.
This move comes as part of the West London club’s strategy to develop young talent by ensuring they get ample playing time.
Negotiations for Wiley were reportedly smooth, thanks to the strong relationship between Chelsea and Atlanta United.
The young defender, recently named in the United States squad for the Paris Olympics, has been capped twice by the senior U.S. team since his debut last year.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been proactive in the transfer market this summer, focusing on young talent, with four signings confirmed so far.
The club has already secured Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa and Marc Guiu from Barcelona.
Additionally, Chelsea is set to sign Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino and has an agreement in place with FC Basel for versatile defender Renato Veiga.
