Champions League: Real Madrid get €42m bonus for winning all group stage games
Real Madrid have sealed €42 million in bonus for their flawless record winning all their Champions League group stage games.
The Spanish giants won all six of their matches against Napoli, Braga, and Union Berlin.
Aside the pride of securing the top spot, this achievement comes with a substantial financial bonus for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
The breakdown shows that Real Madrid gained €2.8 million for each victory of their victory, accumulating to a total of €16.8 million.
Additional earnings include €15.6 million for simply qualifying for the last 16, and €9.6 million for progressing to the knockout stages.
The bonus places Real Madrid ahead of their competitors in the tournament. Bayern Munich trails with earnings of €40.1 million, while Manchester City has the potential to match Real Madrid’s total if they beat Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.
Barcelona on the other hand lags behind with €36.1 million, but a win against Royal Antwerp could increase their earnings to €38.9 million.
Real Madrid now joins Bayern as the only teams to finish the group stages with a perfect record on three occasions.
