Carlo Cudicini compares Loftus-Cheek’s success at Milan, Chelsea
Chelsea’s loan player technical coach and a former Milan goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, is delighted with Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s success at AC Milan.
In a recent interview with Tuttosport, Cudicini discussed Loftus-Cheek’s time at Chelsea and his impressive performances currently in Italy.
“At Milan, he found trust, he plays in a role that he loves and he feels more responsibility, reacting in the right way. He is a leader at Milan,” Cudicini said.
Reflecting on Loftus-Cheek’s time at Chelsea, Cudicini pointed at the Blues academy player’s physicality and technique, as part of the reasons he made it to the senior team early.
“His physicality caught the eye. He was always among the tallest players in the Academy, but he also had great technique, which is not always natural,” he noted.
Cudicini also revealed an amusing encounter between Loftus-Cheek and Antonio Conte during the Italian coach’s time at Chelsea.
“In the meeting with Ruben, he summarily explained how he wanted to play and where he saw him. However, after 20 minutes, you could see smoke coming out of Loftus-Cheek’s head.
“Tactics are important for Italians. In England, it counts, but it’s different. Ruben was 20 and was a promising player and Conte wanted to involve him,” Cudicini recalled.
Loftus-Cheek made a total of 115 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 13 goals, and played under Italian coaches Maurizio Sarri and Conte.
Cudicini, a product of the Milan Academy, on the other hand, played 216 games for Chelsea across ten years.
