Captain Pulisic struggles as hosts United States kicked out of Copa América
The United States were knocked out of the Copa América following a 1-0 loss to Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Monday.
Mathías Olivera’s 66th-minute goal from a set piece was the match decider, despite controversy over a potential offside.
The U.S. needed a win to advance after Panama’s 3-1 win over Bolivia in the group’s other match.
However, the American team struggled offensively, generating making just eight shot attempts.
Uruguayan goalkeeper Sergio Rochet saved all four shots on target, to back his team.
Meanwhile, Uruguay needed only a draw to progress to the next round, but succeeded with a win instead.
