Breaking: Thomas Tuchel announced new England manager, start date confirmed

Thomas Tuchel has been officially appointed as the new manager of the England men’s national football team.

The 51-year-old German coach signed an initial 18-month contract, with a salary reported between £6 million and £7 million.

He will succeed Gareth Southgate and begin his tenure in January 2024, with his contract running until the end of the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

Tuchel will be supported by English coach Anthony Barry, who worked with him at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

English FA CEO Mark Bullingham praised the recruitment process, stating that Tuchel’s “vast expertise” and “drive” made him the standout candidate.

Meanwhile, Tuchel expressed his pride in taking the role, calling it a “huge privilege” and noting his personal connection to the English game.

This will be his first experience in international management following a successful club career that includes winning the Champions League with Chelsea and multiple league titles in Germany and France.

Tuchel will step into the position full-time in January, with interim manager Lee Carsley overseeing England’s upcoming November fixtures.
