Bellingham denied last-gasp effort, ends with red card in Madrid’s dramatic draw against Valencia
Jude Bellingham‘s dramatic late goal was disallowed in a sad ending to Real Madrid’s 2-2 clash with Valencia in the La Liga, on Saturday night.
Bellingham who made a surprise return from injury, thought he had secured a 3-2 win for Los Blancos with a header in the ninth minute of injury time.
However, referee Gil Manzano controversially ruled out the goal, having already blown the final whistle.
The decision sparked outrage among Real Madrid’s players, with Bellingham and Antonio Rudiger both receiving red cards for dissent.
The 20-year-old disallowed goal also meant he missed the opportunity to increase his season goal tally to 21.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment after the incident, calling it “unprecedented” and pointing at the impact of Bellingham’s red card on the team.
Valencia had taken a surprise 2-0 lead in the first half, but Vinicius Junior’s goals before and after halftime, leveled the game for the visitors.
Real Madrid were aiming to extend their lead at the top of the La Liga table, but were denied the oppotunitt.
With the disallowed goal, Real Madrid missed the chance to go nine points clear, with Girona now a major threat in the title race.
