Barcelona yet to reach agreement on Lamine Yamal’s contract extension – report
Barcelona and Jorge Mendes, the agent of Lamine Yamal, have yet to reach an agreement on a new contract for the 17-year-old winger.
Yamal’s current deal, extended by Barcelona in 2023, runs until 2026 under FIFA rules for underage players.
However, once he turns 18 in July 2025, he will be eligible to sign a longer contract.
The club initially planned an extension until 2030, but the agreement was not formalized, leaving uncertainty over his long-term future.
Last week, Mendes met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta in Lisbon for fresh negotiations, but discussions remain unresolved, reports Football Espana.
However, both parties are confident in securing a deal, though financial considerations are a key factor.
Barcelona are reportedly willing to increase Yamal’s annual salary, currently around €2 million, by up to 15 times, potentially making him one of the club’s highest-paid players.
Robert Lewandowski, the club’s top earner at €33 million per year, is expected to take a pay cut as part of the club’s financial restructuring.
Negotiations are expected to continue, with Barcelona aiming to finalize the contract this summer.
