Barcelona ease past Benfica to reach Champions League quarter-finals
Barcelona have advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 4-1 aggregate win over Benfica after a strong second-leg performance at the Estadi OlÃmpic.
Raphinha, who scored the only goal in the first leg, put the hosts ahead in the 11th minute, finishing a brilliant assist from Lamine Yamal.
However, Nicolás Otamendi equalized just two minutes later for Benfica, momentarily raising hopes for the visitors.
Barcelona quickly restored their lead with a sensational strike from Yamal, who curled the ball into the far corner after beating two defenders.
The 17-year-old continues to prove why he is one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
Raphinha grabbed his second of the night just before halftime after Alejandro Balde’s quick run, and VAR overturned an initial offside decision, confirming the goal.
With a comfortable 3-1 lead on the night, the second half was largely uneventful, and Barcelona saw out the game with ease.
Hansi Flick’s side now awaits their quarter-final opponent, which will be either Lille or Borussia Dortmund, who play their second leg on Wednesday.
