Athletic Club confident Nico Williams will stay despite Barcelona, PSG Interests

Athletic Club are confident that star Nico Williams will stay as Barcelona are no longer seen as a threat in the pursuit of the winger.

Despite initial interest from Barcelona, with President Joan Laporta publicly declaring their desire to sign the 22-year-old, contacts between Williams and the Catalan side have gone cold, according to Diario AS.

Barcelona had identified Williams as a top target for the summer, but the lack of response from the player has led the club to move on from the pursuit.

Athletic Club, now less concerned about the Catalan side activating Williams’ release clause, face a more significant threat from Paris Saint-Germain, reports Football Espana.

PSG, under Luis Enrique, could offer Williams a lucrative deal far exceeding what he earns at Athletic Club.

However, Athletic Club remains confident that Williams, who has expressed a preference to stay in Spain, will return to training with the side in August.
