Aston Villa break club record to sign Everton star Amadou Onana
Aston Villa have officially announced the record-breaking signing of midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton.
The 22-year-old Belgian international has joined Unai Emery’s side in a deal worth £50 million, more than the club’s previous record transfer fee of £43 million paid for Moussa Diaby last summer.
Onana, who impressed during his time at Everton after arriving from Lille for £33 million in 2022, attracted interest from several top clubs.
Some of the clubs include Arsenal and Bayern Munich. Despite this, Aston Villa managed to secure his signature as they prepare for a challenging season ahead.
The signing of Onana fills a crucial gap in Villa’s midfield following the departure of Brazilian star Douglas Luiz to Juventus for £42.4 million.
Onana’s versatility and development into a talented central midfielder over his two seasons at Goodison Park make him a perfect fit for the Champions League qualified team.
