“Ask Chelsea” – Romelu Lukaku jokes about England return
On loan Chelsea player Romelu Lukaku shared a light moment when asked why he puts in his all whenever he plays in England.
Diverting the question by Sky Sports reporter he said, “ask Chelsea!”
The statement comes after Belgium’s friendly against the Three Lions at Wembley Stadium, where both sides played 2-2.
The 30-year-old striker, currently on loan at Roma from Chelsea, contributed to Belgium’s performance by providing an assist for Youri Tielemans’ goal.
While he didn’t find the net himself, Lukaku’s display was notable throughout the encounter.
Despite Lukaku’s successful loan spell at Roma, his return to Chelsea in the summer is imminent, as his loan deal lacks a buy option or obligation clause.
Roma want to keep him and are preparing for negotiations closer to the summer.
In the interview with the UK media, Lukaku was asked about his performance in the match.
He said, “That’s football at the end of the day. It’s not over until the referee blows the final whistle, but we have to continue and see progress, and we had an okay performance today.”
When questioned if his strong showing was motivated by a desire to impress upon returning to England, Lukaku playfully said, “I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Chelsea about it!”
