Arteta praises 17-year-old Nwaneri after assist in Gunners 2-1 win over Man Utd

Mikel Arteta heaped praise on 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri following his impressive performance in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Manchester United.

Nwaneri, who became the youngest player in Premier League history last season at 16, showed his potential at the Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Given a starting role, he seized the opportunity by assisting Gabriel Jesus’s goal.

Arteta commended the teenager’s talent, hinting that if he continues with his current form, he would see more playing time.

“It’s always in the hands of the players, so show what you can do. Show that ambition, that determination, that quality, and things will happen naturally.

“Tomorrow he’s going to train with us again and if he continues to play like that, he’s going to play some minutes on Wednesday for sure,” Arteta said.

The Arsenal manager was also pleased with the team’s overall performance as they prepare for the new Premier League season.

“Playing in a different stadium, different pitch conditions, four meters narrower and five meters shorter against a top opponent, and we’re 1-0 down.

“To play in this kind of context is really, really good for us to see the level and the capacity we have to adapt and win in any context, so I’m really pleased,” he added.

Arsenal will continue their pre-season tour with a match against Liverpool on Thursday.
