Arsenal told to consider Liam Delap over prized Osimhen
Football pundit Gary Lineker has advised Arsenal to pursue Liam Delap instead of spending £100 million on Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to solve their striker issues.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Alan Shearer initially suggested that Osimhen would be the ideal signing for the Gunners, saying:
“Victor Osimhen is there, isn’t he? He would guarantee goals for them. The problem is, everyone knows they need a striker, which inflates the price.
“A player who might have cost £60-70m is now going to be worth £100-110m when Arsenal come in.”
However, Lineker countered by recommending Delap, currently at Ipswich Town, as a cheaper alternative with strong potential.
“If I were them, I’d go for Delap at Ipswich. I know he’s young and not entirely proven, but he’s scored a lot of goals in the Premier League for a struggling team.
“His movement is impressive. There’s talk of him going back to Man City, but with Haaland there, he might have to wait a long time for a game.”
With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus out for the season, Arsenal are under pressure to sign a new striker.
Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray, has scored 20 goals in 25 games this season, while Delap has 10 goals in a relegation-threatened side.
As Arsenal sit 11 points behind Liverpool, their focus remains on Wednesday’s crucial fixture against Nottingham Forest, where they will look to close the gap in the title race.
