Ancelotti concerned as Alaba faces potential season-long injury spell
Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti faces a blow with David Alaba’s knee injury sustained during the team’s 4-1 victory against Villarreal.
The Austrian defender was forced off after 35 minutes into the game, amidst concerns by the manager.
“This is the first time it happens to me, 3 of my players tearing their ACL,” Ancelotti said.
Meanwhile, if Alaba is sidelined for the rest of the 2023/24 season, Ancelotti would likely reassess his defensive options in the January transfer window.
Recall that fellow center-back Eder Militao already out until the summer, which is enough reason that could prompt Real Madrid to explore solutions in the upcoming window.
The injury comes after a crucial win for the Spanish capital on Sunday that saw rain of goals, including one each for Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric.
The Los Blancos side fired four pass Villarreal who were only able to pull back one in the La Liga encounter, brining it to 4-1.
