Amorim blames United’s poor form for club’s financial crisis
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that his team’s struggles on the pitch are a major factor behind Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision to axe 200 staff members in ongoing cost-cutting measures at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of United’s crucial clash against Tottenham, Amorim did not shy away from responsibility, stating:
“Our team for a long period of time is not performing. We are buying players, spending money, and then we don’t have that return.
“So, it’s on us, these problems. People are losing their jobs, so we have to acknowledge that.”
The Portuguese coach pointed to United’s absence from the Champions League as a key reason for reduced revenue, which has led to widespread financial restructuring.
Ticket prices have risen, and club icons like Sir Alex Ferguson have been removed from ambassadorial roles, adding to the discontent among fans and staff.
The upheaval has reportedly unsettled players, with some fearing they could be offloaded as part of further cost-cutting moves.
Amorim urged his squad to respond on the pitch, emphasizing: “The first thing to do is to win at Tottenham.”
United, currently struggling in the league, will need a turnaround if they are to salvage their season and restore stability both on and off the field.
