Amorim admits Man United struggles ahead of Arsenal clash – ‘It’s bad’

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has delivered a blunt assessment of his team’s struggles but insists he has a long-term plan for rebuilding the squad.

Since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim has been unable to spark a turnaround, with United currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League.

The team has won just one of their last five matches across all competitions, increasing uncertainty about his future.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash against Arsenal, Amorim told Premier League Productions:

“In terms of the results, it’s bad. Also, the performances are not improving a lot, to be honest. But the good thing is that we are learning a lot.

“We are changing a lot of things, but you cannot see it. Here in Carrington, the way we want to do things. I’m understanding the players and doing, in my head, what is the future of the squad.”

While acknowledging the need for immediate results, the Portuguese coach emphasized that long-term planning is crucial:

“When you are planning and doing and thinking to the future, you have to pay attention to the present. And the present is really hard because the results and performances are not there.”

Despite the struggles, Amorim noted minor improvements in the team’s approach, particularly in possession and defensive confidence.

He also highlighted individual progress, mentioning Joshua Zirkzee’s adaptation and efforts to optimize Bruno Fernandes’ role.

United will host Arsenal on Sunday before the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie against Real Sociedad on March 13.
