UEFA has confirmed that a “moment of silence” will be observed at all of Tuesday night’s Euro 2024 qualifiers.
The European football governing body UEFA, said It is to pay tribute to the victims of the tragic shootings in Brussels on Monday evening.
talkSPORT reported that spectators attending the England vs Italy Euro 2024 qualifier at Wembley Stadium have been advised to expect a strong police presence.
Fans have also been urged to “remain vigilant” during the match.
Recall that the Belgium vs Sweden qualifier had to be abandoned at half-time due to a suspected terrorist attack, during which two individuals lost their lives. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo later confirmed that the victims were of Swedish nationality.
However, the Metropolitan Police is said to have taken steps to ensure the safety of attendees at the England vs Italy game. Superintendent Gerry Parker, the match commander, stated that officers are prepared to deal with any potential security issues and maintain public order.
“We have been working with our partners, including the FA, in the weeks leading up to this match to ensure those attending the Wembley area enjoy this match,” Parker said.
He added, “Please ensure you arrive in good time for the match and remain vigilant throughout; if you see anything suspicious, flag it to an officer or one of the match stewards immediately so the necessary action can be taken.”.
