Again, Wike vows to flush street beggars out of Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has announced that plans are underway to introduce a new security scheme designed to eliminate the presence of beggars in Abuja.

Wike warned the beggars to leave the city, stating that his administration cannot allow the FCT to be overrun by beggars.

“If you want to beg, go to the villages, but leave the city centre.” He said

Wike, speaking on Monday, at the inauguration of the upgraded War College/Army Checkpoint Road and other ancillary roads in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja, emphasised that the FCT Administration would not tolerate begging in the city.

“We cannot allow our city to be overrun by beggars. If you want to beg, go to the villages, but leave the city centre.

“The city must be clean, and we are ready for criminals.

“Some individuals choose to beg, but the FCT administration will not permit it.

“This measure is part of broader efforts to enhance security in the FCT,” Wike stated.

Wike acknowledged the efforts of security agencies in keeping residents safe and warned beggars to leave the city or face the consequences.
