AFCON 2025Q: Boniface laments being stranded at Libyan airport

Nigerian international striker, Victor Boniface has expressed frustration over being stranded at a Libyan airport for nearly 13 hours without access to basic amenities.

The Union Berlin star, currently en route to a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match, took to X (formerly Twitter) to air his grievances, calling out the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

It would be recalled that the Super Eagles left Nigeria on Sunday morning for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier second leg against Libya.

However, since they arrived in the North African country, the team has been stranded at the airport for over 13 hours without food, according to Boniface.

In his post, Boniface wrote, “Been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no Wi-Fi, no where to sleep. African, we can do better @CAF.”

The incident has sparked concerns over travel arrangements and infrastructure for African teams participating in the AFCON qualifiers.

Boniface’s plea adds to the growing calls for CAF and national football associations to ensure better logistical support for players and staff, especially during long-haul journeys between countries.

Fans and fellow footballers have since rallied around Boniface’s post, demanding action from CAF to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
