AFCON 2023: Kelechi Iheanacho remains out – Leicester coach reveals
Kelechi Iheanacho remains sidelined following a muscular injury, which could see him miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
This was announced by Leicester City’s coach Enzo Maresca during a press conference ahead of their match against Coventry on Saturday.
While a statement on the club’s website confirmed the return of Jamie Vardy, who turned 37 this week, as well as Kasey McAteer and Dennis Praet, it stated that “Kelechi Iheanacho remains out“.
However, this is a contrary opinion to that confirmed by Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro, who said that Iheanacho has recovered from the injury and will join the team in camp on Saturday, as revealed by Completesports.
Super Eagles will have their first outing in the continental tournament on Sunday, January 14, against Equatorial Guinea by 3:00 pm.
