About 60,000 Bayern fans sign petition to block De Ligt sale to Man United
Bayern Munich fans are rallying to keep Matthijs de Ligt at the club, with nearly 60,000 supporters signing a petition to prevent his sale.
This comes amidst increasing interest from Manchester United in the Dutch defender.
Sky Germany reports that although United have intensified efforts to secure De Ligt’s services, they risk losing the deal because of the petition.
“Almost 60,000 fans have now signed a petition calling on the Bayern Munich bosses to keep Mattijs de Ligt,” the report reads.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils have already made contact with De Ligt’s representatives as they seek to bolster their defense.
United’s interest in De Ligt grew after negotiations with Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite stalled.
Everton rejected United’s £43 million bid, insisting on a valuation closer to £70 million.
Consequently, United shifted focus to De Ligt, considering him a top target alongside other defensive options such as Leny Yoro and Marc Guéhi.
Manager Erik ten Hag is prioritizing the acquisition of at least one center-back this summer following the departure of Raphaël Varane, who left Old Trafford on a free transfer.
