EPL: Ten Hag confesses he’s not totally satisfied with Andre Onana’s outputs
Onana has received praise for his distribution skills almost equaling that of a midfielder, but he has also faced criticism for making avoidable errors in matches
Erik ten Hag has revealed he is not totally satisfied with Andre Onana’s performances at Manchester United, challenging him to up his game.
The warning comes ahead of their Premier League clash against Sheffield United today (Saturday).
Manchester United signed Onana from Inter Milan during the summer transfer window to replace their long serving goal tender David de Gea at the expiration of his contract.
While Onana has received praises for his distribution skills almost equaling that of a midfielder, he has also faced criticisms for making avoidable errors in matches, such as the ones made against Bayern Munich, Galatasaray, and Brentford recently.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with TribalFootball, the Dutch tactician emphasized the need for Onana to up his performance level.
“For Andre, it is good to know about his history, but we live in the present and the future. He has to shape his future by delivering better performances.”
“I’m confident that he will do so. He has already demonstrated his abilities in major clubs like Barcelona during his youth. At Ajax, he reached the semi-final of the Champions League. He was in the Champions League final last season with Inter,” Ten Hag added.
Onana is known for his sweeping goalkeeping style. He is also in the character of venturing out of his box to contribute to the team’s build-up play, without minding the circumstances.
