EPL: McTominay saves Manchester United with late comeback victory
Scott McTominay emerged as the hero for Manchester United, scoring two injury-time goals to secure a dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford.
The win ends United’s challenging run, having suffered five defeats in their last seven matches before the Brentford games.
Manchester United started the clash shaky, both on and off the pitch. Shortly before the game, some of their fans protested the Glazer family’s continued ownership of the club by blocking the ticket office at Old Trafford.
While on the field, an error by goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Mathias Jensen to score the opening goal for Brentford, 26 minutes into the game.
The setback was supposed to be the Red Devil’s worst home run in 44 years, but McTominay prevented history from repeating itself with his two goals in the final four minutes of the game.
Despite their struggles early in the game, United thought they had equalized with a late own goal, but VAR ruled it out due to Anthony Martial being in an offside position.
Shortly before stoppage time, 87th minute precisely, McTominay was introduced to the game, and quickly became the hero of the day, scoring goals that turned the game in Manchester United’s favour.
The victory now sees United occupy the 9th position on the Premier League table as they head into the international break.
