2024 FIBA WOQ: NBBF promises D’Tigress will survive ‘group of death’
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has expressed confidence that the D’Tigress will survive their Olympic qualifiers group.
The Nigeria senior female basketball team have been drawn into the “group of death” in the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament.
D’Tigress are set to compete against tough opponents in their bid to secure a ticket to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Nigerian national team will face the United States of America, host nation Belgium, and African giants Senegal in Group B. The tournament has been scheduled to take place in Belgium from February 8 to 11, 2024.
Meanwhile, Maxwell Kumoye, a member of NBBF’s Media Committee and the Premier League Management Committee, expressed optimism about D’Tigress’s chances.
He said the team’s status as African champions and the combination of young and experienced players in the squad will help them make their mark during the qualifiers.
“As African champions, the D’Tigress is one of the most formidable teams in the world of basketball at the moment, and I see them picking the ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympics,” Kumoye stated.
He also acknowledged the challenge posed by Senegal and Belgium but believes in D’Tigress’s ability to secure the Olympic ticket.
Recall that the United States team are the reigning world champions, and hence, have already secured an automatic ticket at the Olympics, leaving only one slot for the remaining teams in the group.
