Champions League: David Alaba ruled out for Real Madrid’s clash against Napoli
Real Madrid’s Austrian defender David Alaba will be sidelined for their upcoming UEFA Champions League encounter with Napoli.
The group stage encounter will be hosted by the Naples club at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Tuesday, October 3. The match marks Real Madrid’s second fixture in this season’s Champions League campaign.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side commenced their European journey with a 1-0 victory over German side Union Berlin on September 20, with England midfielder Jude Bellingham netting the lone goal deep into stoppage time.
However, Real Madrid will now have to put up with Alaba’s defensive contributions, as confirmed on the club’s official website.
The former Bayern star defender’s appearance for the club was in the 2-0 win against Las Palmas on September 27. However, he was substituted after just 41 minutes due to a groin injury.
Alaba who joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2021, has contributed one assist in eight games across all competitions this season.
Despite the absence of Alaba, Real Madrid aims to continue their strong Champions League performance. Recall they currently hold the record for the most Champions League titles in history, having won it 14 times.
