ABUAD student shares story as he graduates after 12 years in university
After a long and eventful 12-year journey, a student of Afe Babalola University of Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Ekiti, shares his experience as he successfully graduates.
Edijala John Ephie took to the micro-blogging platform, X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate this significant academic achievement.
Via his X account, @Ephis_xiv, the newly minted engineering graduate shared images of his sign-out shirt, featuring the inscription, “2011-2023. God Did!”
He, however, explained that his 12-year stay at the university was primarily due to a specific incident he referred to as “that Sunday night.”
Elaborating on the matter, he recounted how ABUAD’s administration had accused him of involvement in the February 2016 riot that occurred on campus, resulting in the destruction of property worth millions of naira.
He was accused of being an accomplice to the riot group that damaged the infrastructure of the university environment.
In his words, “Yea Yea, I just graduated after 12 years solely because of that Sunday night. Nice one ABUAD. This was my Supposed Crime; “Chatting on Phone with an ‘alleged’ Riot Culprit” Not like I was involved in the riot directly or indirectly. But because a text from a previous day was found on my phone. N.B.- I was sent to Federal Prison Ado Ekiti for this ‘Offence’. For 3 weeks.”
