Athletics: Sports Minister applauds Amusan, Brume for victories at Diamond League
The Minister of Sports Development Senator John Enoh has praised Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume for their victories at the Diamond League.
Enoh extended his congratulations to the duo who showed the Nigeria spirit of resilience at the global event held in Eugene, Oregon, United States of America
Amusan won the 100m Women’s Hurdles in a personal time record of 12.33 to reclaim her Diamond League title, while Brume showed her talent, achieving a leap of 6.85 meters at the event.
Although she narrowly missed securing her first-ever Diamond League title, her resilient resolve led to her victory.
In his commendation, Minister Enoh praised the two talents for their consistency in athletics across various competitions, including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and the Diamond Leagues.
While he believes that the victory is one that will restore Amusan’s confidence after the difficult ordeal she passed through in Budapest, he recognizes that Brume has consistently ranked among the world’s top athletes in her category, bringing honor to Nigeria.
He reiterated that while Amusan lost the World Championship title in Budapest, she won the hearts of all Nigerians. “I am glad that she was able to overcome all of the challenges to defend her crown for the third consecutive time,” Enoh added.
The former Senator encourages Amusan and Brume, as well as other Nigerian athletes to maintain their focus on the larger goal, especially the 2024 Olympic Games holding in Paris, France.
