ABU graduate of pharmacy awarded fully funded McCall MacBain scholarship to pursue her master’s degree in Canada
Farida Zakariya, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Nigeria, is set to make history as the first recipient of the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarship from a Nigerian university.
Her remarkable journey from ABU to McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she will pursue a master’s degree in Experimental Medicine.
The body wrote;
“We are thrilled to celebrate Farida Zakariya, who has embarked on her Master’s degree in Experimental Medicine at McGill University – a remarkable achievement that makes her the first Nigerian recipient of the prestigious McCall MacBain Scholarships.
Farida Zakariya’s academic journey began at ABU Zaria, where she pursued a degree in Pharmacy.
Her dedication and hard work were evident as she transformed herself from not being in the top 10 of her class in her first year to graduating as the best student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Farida’s graduation in 2022 was a moment of triumph as she walked away with an impressive tally of twelve awards from all six departments.
Reflecting on her journey, Farida expressed her elation on social media.
“On 12th April 2022, I was inducted as a Pharmacist! Going from not being top 10 in my first year to graduating as the best-graduating student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences with 12 awards from 6 out of 6 departments still feels like a dream,” Farida said.
Farida’s exceptional academic achievements did not go unnoticed. Her story caught the attention of Scholarship Cafe, an organization dedicated to sharing scholarship opportunities, which celebrated her accomplishments on their platform.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, the founder of Scholarship Cafe, spoke about Farida’s remarkable journey and the significance of the McCall MacBain Scholarship.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi said;
“Farida finished with a strong grade and exhibited her community and leadership service. The scholarship is very competitive. They recently opened it to international students.”
